Chloe Lynn Peterson

Chloe Lynn Peterson born Monday, December 27th, 2010 at 7:01 am weighing 7 lbs, 14 oz and 19 1/2 inches long.

Chloe came into this world on a beautiful Monday morning. We were in the hospital for 5 days due to being a c-section baby. We brought Chloe home on Friday, December 31st. On the evening of Saturday, January 1st, 2011 Chloe had eaten her regular dosage of almost 4 ounces of formula then something happened after eating to what you would call a "twitch/spasm" like something or other. I noticed this, but didn't say anything to anybody. We had gone to my mom's house that night to visit and Chloe ate and 15 minutes later she had a twitch/spasm once again that I noticed. My mom noticed it also, but didn't say anything. We had gone home that night and gone to bed. Chloe woke up at 2 am for her feeding and Jeff was just getting home from work and 15 minutes after she ate once again this twitch/spasm was back, so I ran her down to Jeff to show him what was going on. Jeff was the first person I told and pointed this out too. We watched her on Sunday and it didn't happen after every feeding so we weren't sure whether it was a fluke or whether it was something we should worry about. Well on Sunday, she had a few more that happened. The funny thing is that it only occurred after she'd eat, it never happened in between. We than thought could it be her formula? Could it be the nipple and she's getting too much air flow to have this such a thing occur? Any ways.... on Monday, January 3rd we took her into the Dr that was on call while we were at the hospital and of course Chloe wouldn't do this "twitch/spasm" thing like we were hoping she would to show him what was happening and we wanted an answer as to whether or not what she was doing was a seizure or not. This Dr. had told us it was nothing to worry about, but to keep him posted. I deep down had a feeling that there was something wrong. I went home that day and recorded Chloe and uploaded it to youtube of what was happening just in case it was something to be worried about or not. We went back into our regular pediatrician on Tuesday, January 4th hoping Chloe would do this "twitch" like motion to show the doctor what was going on and of course it didn't happen. Jeff had his phone with him of the recording that I uploaded to youtube and we were able to show her what was happening. After we met with her we were sent directly up to Primary Children's Hospital to the ER to have things checked out with our Chloe. By this time Jeff and I were emotional wrecks wondering what in the world was going on. We got all checked into Primary's and back in our waiting room where we saw doctor after doctor and then started all of the different testing that would happen to find out what was going on and trying to get some answers as to whether it was seizures or not. The types of tests they ran were an EEG (Brain scan to tell us if it was a seizure or not), it came back positive that it was seizures, but everything else came back negative meaning nothing was wrong with her brain, thankfully. We then did a CT scan, MRI, blood work, she was put on 4 antibiotics just in case it was an infection of somekind causing the seizures, spinal tap, EKG (heart exam), etc. After an emotional day and a half of waiting for test results, all tests came back negative meaning nothing is wrong which is absolutely wonderful, but the problem was we still didn't know what was causing her to have seizures so off we went to have more tests ran and every test they did too came back negative. After being in the hospital for almost a week with our little 8 day old baby girl it was decided that she would be put on a medication called phenobarbitol that would take the seizures away and up her threshold to where she wouldn't seize. Having had one hell of a week and still no answers except for being told it was seizures and putting her on a medication, the only thing we could do at this point is to have faith that Chloe will eventually grow out of it and soon they would go away. How thankful we are for the power of the priesthood and knowing that after 3 of the most powerful blessings I've ever witnessed we truly believe that's what has allowed Chloe to be okay. What a strong little baby she is and has shown us how fragile life is. Doctors have told us that they hope she will eventually grow out of it and it may be 2 months, she could be 6 months, 1 year or older that it's just a matter of time until we would know for sure. Since on the medication Chloe has not had one seizure. She is doing absolutely wonderful. We did more blood work yesterday and her phenobarb levels came back a little low so we will up the medication just a little bit. How blessed we truly are to know that Chloe is going to be okay, that she will hopefully overcome this obstacle in her life and what an example she is to us already.

We wanted to thank everybody for their concern, for the phone calls, the emails, the notes, the flowers, the drop by's, the meals that have been dealt to us at such a time in our life when we've needed the support from all of you the most. I thank my mom for taking the entire week off to take Briley while we were at Primary's all that week. We thank Primary's and how incredible they were with us and our baby girl, the doctors who took such great care of us, for a male nurse that inspired us so much that has made us re-think our situation of moving to Arizona to pursue golf school to having Jeff go into the medical field of becoming a nurse which is something he too has always wanted to do. After 3 long weeks of having a baby, trying to recover, having decisions that had to be made, doctor appointments every single day, looking into nursing schools, looking into the Army, etc we have finally come to a conclusion that we think it's best to stay here in Utah. Jeff is going to pursue his nursing degree and he too will be joining the Army. How excited we are for what the future has in store for us.

At the same time, please keep our little Chloe in your thoughts and prayers. We have faith that this is something she will overcome and grow out of and that she will be perfectly fine in due time. What a beautiful baby girl she is. What a humbling experience to our family and this has brought us so much closer together. I thank Jeff for being the rock that I've needed him to be to make me stronger. How thankful I am for Briley and all of her hugs n kisses knowing something was going on. How blessed we truly are and what a courageous little girl we have been blessed with in our home.

Something we all need to remember is that God won't ever give you anything you can't handle. For this we are thankful. Remember that it could always be worse and that life is still great and we must press forward hoping for the best.

We love you Chloe. How thankful I am to be your mommy. What a blessing you are in my life. Your older sister admires you and loves you so much and you too are the light in your daddy's eye.

Thank you for being ours. Thank you for choosing us as your mommy and daddy. Thank you for choosing Briley as your older sister. She will always be there to love and protect you.

We Love You,
Your Mommy, Daddy and older sister Briley

Cambra! Your baby girl is beautiful, congrats! What a scary experience! I had a similar thing where Carter stopped breathing at one day old for no apparent reason. Your post was so touching it made me cry. Being a mom is so incredible, I loved how you said about remembering God won't give us anything we can't handle which is so true, but so hard to remember in our hardest moments. Makes me want to go hug my baby!

Cambra,

I was surprised to read that you were in the hospital for 5 days due to a c-section. I had a c-section after 23 hours of labor and it sucked, but I healed very quickly so I was only in the hospital 3 days. That is so great to hear that Chloe is doing much better. What an emotional time that must have been for you guys. I know that prayer is a huge relief during hard times. It has gotten us through a lot and the power of the priesthood is wonderfully great. James received the priesthood just last year after some hard work and he was able to give me a blessing after his mom died and it was such a comfort. Anyway, I am grateful to read this uplifting story and I have faith that little Chloe will grow out of this quickly.
